VOTER REGISTRATION: Get Out the Vote
We show up where voters already are, at fairs, farmers markets, and community festivals, to register people to vote and answer questions about how elections work. No experience necessary. You will work alongside someone who has tabled before, and every conversation helps more neighbors get ready to vote this fall. It is a lot of fun too.

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our voter outreach this election season. You gave up your time, answered questions from neighbors and helped people get registered, and that matters more than it might feel like in the moment.

Voter registration doesn’t stop when the election does. We do it year round, at fairs, libraries, community events and anywhere neighbors gather. Requests and opportunities spike in the weeks around an election, but they come in all year, and we’ll keep needing people who can say yes. Watch this space, because we’ll post opportunities as they come up.

Next time you’re picking up a latte, stop by a Caffè Ladro and say hello to the baristas. If one of them or another customer asks what we do, you’re welcome to answer. Talk about voter registration, our nonpartisan work or how to get involved.

Comment: Tell the Census Bureau to Roll Back Its Proposed Rule
Comment deadline: Nov 02 Mon
Add your voice and ask the Census Bureau to roll back its proposed rule and extend the comment period to Dec 10. The rule would change who gets counted in the census, including counting only citizens and green card holders and ending the collection of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity data. The League believes the rule is unconstitutional and would distort the population counts used for representation and public services.

I-645 | Vote “NO” Keep Highest Earners Paying Their Fair Share
Washington’s tax system hits low earners hardest. Our top earners pay as little as 3% of their income in state taxes, while our lowest earners pay as much as 13%. The “millionaires’ tax” would help correct that, and it affects less than 1% of Washingtonians. Today, the wealthy here pay less than they would in 42 other states.

Watch the Series: What the Constitution Says About Today’s Headlines
Want to understand what the Constitution says about the issues in the news? Each recording pairs accessible history with discussion of today’s events, so you can see where a modern controversy comes from. You’ll come away with practical civic knowledge and more confidence in weighing news coverage and public policy.

This nonpartisan series is hosted by the Wheaton League of Women Voters. Professor Steve Schwinn of UIC Law School traces how the framers’ debates, the amendments and landmark court decisions still shape current issues, from voting rights to free speech.
