March Forum Resources
Thank you to our panelists and all who participated in our forum, "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the League."
Here are links to resources mentioned during the discussion:
"A lot of organizations and institutions talk about outreach and trying to figure out how to increase their numbers and get more people [of color] interested. It really isn't about that. It’s about addressing the nature of those organizations, not bringing people into a space that is still riddled with the same issues and toxicity. You have to change the space. Because otherwise you're inviting people to contend with all of those issues." — Walter Kitundu.
Bittel, Jason. "People called police on this black birdwatcher so many times that he posted custom signs to explain his hobby."

“Fiduciary duty requires board members to stay objective, unselfish, responsible, honest, trustworthy, and efficient. Board members, as stewards of public trust, must always act for the good of the organization, rather than for the benefit of themselves. They need to exercise reasonable care in all decision making, without placing the organization under unnecessary risk.” From Fiduciary Responsibilities, BoardSource
"Inclusion requires actively including everyone. Anything less is merely performative." Cipriano, Christina. "Dear parents: Don’t just tell your kids not to ‘stare’ at mine." We also ask that you make an effort to seek perspectives different from your own by following people on social media, or reading media from folks with backgrounds different from your own. A great way to do this is to find a topic in which you are already interested (such as climate change), and look for voices from diverse perspectives who are talking about or writing about this topic.
